NATO Workshop on Lone Actors Terrorism

Sponsored by the NATO SPS Program a workshop on the emerging threat of terrorism by lone actors was organized and realized in cooperation with the TAM-C solution company. The event took place in Jerusalem bringing together experts from all over the world on many relevant disciplines. The activity resulted with a NATO book printed by IOS PRESS presenting papers on this phenomenon. FIRS2T researchers published three papers in and participated in the book editing process.

Wild Cards and Weak Signals

Wild cards and weak signals is an emerging foresight method assisting governments and organizations in preparing for the future. This helps much in reducing surprises in cases of uncertainty and gives decision makers measures to prepare for such future.  The FIRS2T group prepared an instruction package to teach and coach students how to implement this method in various sectors.

Identification of Terrorists

This ongoing study concerns the possibility to identify terrorists in early stages in order to prevent terror events altogether. FIRS2T researchers cooperate with scientists from the US and Canada to analyze various technological alternatives to realize this objective.  This include an international Real Time Delphi   questionnaire to collect data and opinions from experts worldwide.  A special NATO SPS workshop has been proposed to discuss this issue in cooperation with the Millenium project.

Preparation of EU Proposals

Many of FIRS2T members are experienced in preparation of EU projects and were active in these programs as researchers and coordinators. FIRS2T is thus commissioned to prepare such proposals and help submitting them to the European Research Program. When appropriate, researchers are also participating actively in the proposal consortium.
