Security
FIRS2T researchers are active in subjects related to the security dimension. This includes assessment of emerging threats following the development of new technologies, working at encountering the emerging threat of terrorism by lone actors, assessing new strategies of counter-terrorism, studying the non-conventional threat as well as evaluating defense and protection strategies and policies to cope with different threats. Papers have been published on the subject. Reports were prepared for the Israeli government, NATO, the EU and other sponsors and customers.
Knowledge maangement is a discipline that promotes an integrated approach to identifying, managing, sharing, and leveraging all of an enterprise's knowledge and information assets, by continuously employing a set of policies, organisational structures, procedures, applications and technologies, in purpose of improving its competitive advantage.
Most innovations do not necessarily come as a lightning flash idea and are rather the result from a conscious, purposeful search for opportunities within the company and the industry as well as the larger social and intellectual environment. A successful innovation may come from pulling together different strands of knowledge, recognizing an underlying theme in public perception, or extracting new insights from failure.
Technology monitoring
FIRS2T aids decision makers in long range planning of their activities and the future of their institutions on numerous levels. FIRS2T researchers help organizations advance both in designing their long term policies, and in modifying them to cope with technological and societal changes, which may impact the organization's future and its economical sustainability.
Special and advanced foresight methods are used to realize these objectives:
- As part of this process, a thorough evaluation of future technologies and their possible effects on the organization's activity is performed.
- Relevant long range scenarios are built to present the expected technological and societal environment in which the organization will need to operate.
- The method of wild cards and weak signals is applied in this context, enabling the identification of risks and chanses to which the organization can and should be prepared.
An additional,unique method is the identification of technology and knowledge nodes within the organization. The identification and furthering of these groups are crucial for the long range viability of the organization as well as for the quality of its activities. In addition, relevant employees and their fields of expertise are identified. This method has been applied in various research centers within the Government of Israel and also in Israeli industries.
